LubeSite's Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
Grease Feeder Q & AQ. Can the LubeSite feeder over-grease the bearing? A. No. The tapered metering rod equalizes the flow of bearing greasing, compensating for the change in spring pressure as the spring extends. This controlled flow of grease enters the bearing at a pressure under 2 psi, eliminating the possibility of blown seals or over-greasing. Q. What happens during equipment shutdown? A. LubeSite automatic greaser will cease to feed because there is no venturi action when the bearing is not operating. Q. How does LubeSite know the proper amount of grease to feed the bearing? A. Grease is kept available to the bearing by the
spring force (under 2 psi). As the bearing rotates, the natural vacuum
(venturi action) of the bearing draws grease into the housing and fills
the void created as grease is used. Q. Can I pre-fill the 200, 300, 500 and 704 Series units? A. No. LubeSite units should be filled just prior
to mounting to prevent grease from being under pressure before the unit
is installed. Q. Must the unit be removed from the equipment for refilling? A. The initial filling is done before the unit is
mounted. Unit should be filled until grease begins to come from the coupler
end. Subsequent fillings are done with the unit mounted on the equipment. Q. How is the Model 404 activated? A. Remove red cap from threaded end. Turn screw in
center of cap to release piston/spring assembly and mount directly on bearing. Q. Does LubeSite supply various greases for the Model 404? A. Standard Model 404 is filled with high quality
#2 lithium-based grease. Units can be filled with other greases on a special
order basis. Q. What size unit should be used on my application? A. Unit capacity is determined by the bearing shaft
diameter, the class of bearing (open, sealed), rpm, and whether it will
be used for intermittent or continuous operation. Refer to the Size
Selection Guide.
Q. If the LubeSite unit cannot be seen, or if there is not sufficient room for it to be mounted directly on the bearing, can it be mounted remotely for accurate bearing greasing? A. For the most efficient operation, the LubeSite
unit should be mounted directly on the bearing. If application is in a
hard to reach location and the grease level can be seen, use of the LubeLine
Remote Refill Kit will allow filling from a distance of 10 feet. If
there is lack of space, use of the extra heavy spring (orange) will enable
mounting the unit 5 to 10 feet away from the bearing. Use 1/4" tubing and
fill the tubing and the feeder with grease prior to mounting to prevent
air pockets. Keep extensions as short as possible for best operation. Q. Can my grease feeder be used in all types of applications? A. Yes, LubeSite can be used in a wide variety of
applications: Q. What type of grease can the feeder handle? A. LubeSite handles a wide range and assortment of
greases. A good quality non-separating grease with an NLGI #00 to #2 can
be used. For other grades, contact LubeSite. There are four springs available
for all 200, 300, and 500 series units to compensate for various weights
and application requirements. Q. How do I determine the proper spring for my application? A. Spring selection is determined by the grade of
the grease (NLGI #) and operating temperature. Refer to the Spring
Selection Guide.
Q. If water from precipitation or wash-down enters the unit through breather holes in top of dome, will it contaminate the grease? A. Moisture inside dome is above the piston/o-ring
assembly which will prevent it from entering grease. Q. Can I mount the LubeSite unit in other than a vertical position? A. Yes, LubeSite can be mounted at any angle,
or even upside down. Q. How will I know the time interval before refilling is required? A. Because of LubeSite's "on-demand" feed feature,
the refill interval can vary because grease is added as needed. If your
equipment is shut down, the LubeSite unit does not continue to feed. The
transparent dome makes it easy to see the grease level and when refilling
is necessary. Oiler Q & AQ. How do I control flow from my oiler? A. Drip oiler valves must be controlled manually.
The oil flow of the standard needle valve is adjusted by the operator when
unit is turned on. The cam-lock valve has a flow adjustment which can be
set to ensure that the flow rate is the same each time the unit is turned
on. Q. What range of oil weights can be used with LubeSite oilers? A. From #0 to #90. NOTE: #90 is APG oil, others are
SAE. Q. What is the feed rate of wick oilers? A. There are three wicks available: slow, medium,
and fast. The Wick Selection
Guide provides data on flow rate with various oil weights.
Q. Can I use the valve flow sight from the 4 oz. and 8 oz. oilers on the SAVER oiler? A. Yes, the valves for the standard line and the
SAVER line are interchangeable. Q. Will water enter oiler through hole in poke-through cap? A. Normally no, because the small size of the hole
opening prevents flow. |
